I am probably making too far of a leap here, but when I started thinking about it, I realized your history with your beauty products reads sort of like your dating history. Sometimes, you can’t commit. Sometimes, you need to be in the mood for one, or sometimes you fall in love more than once. And sometimes, you overuse and reuse one until it betrays you. Who knew sunless tanners were this personal? Of course, they are- everything with beauty is. I try to remember this as I am frantically clicking through the Ulta reviews. I try to remember everyone has a unique experience from a blush, foundation, or in this case – sunless tanner.
Because I am basically translucent, I have had ample experience testing and trying out self-tanners. Over that time, I have found some duds, holy grails and everything in between. Here you will find my top favorite tanners, and a very popular one that I just do not think is worth the hype. Oh, and this is JUST MY OPINION. No need to get all in a tizzy about it, or worry that I am exaggerating. No affiliate links on this post.
Need advice on how to apply it? Check this page out first! I personally think has the best tips. 🙂
1. Ol’ Faithful – St. Tropez (8/10)
Whether you decide on the Classic, Express or even the Marshmallow scented, you cannot go wrong with St. Tropez. In all my years of self-tanning (10+), I have never had any streakiness or blotchiness with St. Tropez. It is a green based tan, so no orangey-ness either. The color that St. Tropez gives IS beautiful, however, what I do find is that you are going to smell very strongly. It is that “fake tanner” smell, if you catch my drift. The price is on the higher end, but not awful for not being drugstore. St. Tropez usually runs about $45/ 8 FL Oz.
2. The New Love – Bali Body (9/10)
This has been my go to lately. Bali Body is the next kid on the block, but has already been making it’s rounds in the beauty community and YouTube. It has been getting mixed reviews, but I think it’s amazing! The color is beautiful, you can rinse off in an hour and it smells amazing (well, for tanner). The color is build able, however, just one coat gives an extremely beautiful tan. For about $30, you get 6.7 FL Oz with Bali Body.
3. Best Bang for Your Buck – St. Moriz- (7/10)
St. Moriz works- It works GREAT! I have a good friend that LOVES this stuff, and I did too for quite some time. I probably still do, but it just does not love me back as much as it used to. What I have found is that you have to exfoliate very thoroughly before using this (or any faux tanner), or it is going to turn out splotchy on your hands and feet. I still think it is an amazing product for the price. St. Moriz is about $13 for 6.77 FL Oz.
4. The New Classic – Bondi Sands (9.5/10)
I love Bondi Sands. It literally has not let me down once since trying it out. You can buy it online. You can even buy it at Walgreens! They have a few different formulas from dark, to light and even a dry oil. It is so easy to apply, and the color is always flawless. My only gripe is that I wish the color would last longer than it does. Maybe I just haven’t left it on long enough? I don’t know! But, I love it! For $30 or so, you get around 7 FL Oz with Bondi Sands.
And the one I DON’T think is worth it? Okay, now to be fair, it is been a few years since I have tried it. I thought the color was absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and I loved that I could wash it off in 2 hours. However, the color was gone the very NEXT day?! What was it? The Loving Tan. I know TONS of people love it. It just didn’t work for me. I wish it did!
